Surgery clinics

We offer a range of clinics and services at the surgery. There are some tasks you can do, such as health reviews, using our online forms.

Specialist appointments

Family planning – coils and implants

We are currently unable to offer coil and implant appointments, patients are to contact the local sexual health clinics.

Coils and Implants

Implants and coils require an initial consultation to ensure you have all the information you need about these forms of contraceptive to ensure that it is the right form of contraception for you.

If you would like an appointment to discuss these forms of contraception please call our mainline and the care navigator will add your name to a waiting list, as we offer limited appointments for these procedures each month.

You will have a telephone call booked initially to discuss the contraceptive followed by the appointment for the contraceptive fitting.

Smear tests

Cervical Cytology (also known as a smear test for women) is undertaken at the surgery by the doctors and nurses who have undergone specific training in this examination. It is recommended that you have a cervical smear at the following times:

  • If you are aged 25 to 50 years of age, every 3 years
  • If you are aged 50 to 64 years of age, every 5 years

Best results are obtained if you try and have the test during the middle of your menstrual cycle (about 14 days from the first day of your last period)

NHS health checks

What is an NHS health check?

The NHS health check is a health check-up for adults in England aged 40-74. It’s designed to spot early signs of kidney disease, heart disease, type 2 diabetes or dementia. As we get older, we have a higher risk of developing one of these conditions. A NHS health check helps find ways to lower this risk

How do I get a NHS health check?

If you’re in the 40-74 age range without a pre-existing chronic condition, you can expect to receive a letter from your GP or local authority inviting you for a free NHS health check every five years. At the health centre NHS health checks are carried out by our healthcare assistants.

Conditions we cannot help with

Dental pain

GPs should not attempt to manage a condition requiring dental skills unless they have the appropriate training and expertise. Both the civil courts and the GMC require doctors to have appropriate skills for any treatment they offer.

Even in cases where the patient is not ‘registered’ with a dentist, the treatment of dental problems is not the responsibility of GPs, this includes pain management relating to dental issues.

In such circumstances, the patient should be advised to contact local urgent or emergency dental services (by calling the 111 service), or in severe circumstances the nearest accident and emergency department.

There is no need to register with a dentist in the same way as with a GP because you are not bound to a catchment area.

Simply find a dental surgery that’s convenient for you, whether it’s near your home or work, and phone them to see if there are any appointments available. Dental surgeries will not always have the capacity to take on new NHS patients you may have to join a waiting list, look for a different dentist who is taking on new NHS patients, or be seen privately.

Once you find a dental surgery, you may have to fill in a registration form at your first visit, which is purely to add you to their patient database. However, that does not mean you have guaranteed access to an NHS dental appointment in the future.

If after contacting several dental surgeries you still cannot find a dentist accepting NHS patients, call NHS England’s customer contact centre on 0300 311 2233. NHS England commissions dental services in England and is required to meet the needs of their local population for both urgent and routine dental care. Your local healthwatch also may be able to give you information about services in your area.
